In November 2023, the Zaïde quartet and Hendrickx Ntela, a krump dancer, met for Arte TV Concert program “SUR MESURE” .
The poetry that comes out from Hendrickx’s dance, the association of krump with romantic music, bring a strength and energy which merges with the interpretation of the Zaïde quartet and the transmission to the audience.

Krump is a dance form that emerged in the 2000s in the slums of Los Angeles. Despite the rage and anger often seen in the dancers’ facial expressions and the many fast movements, krump is a non-violent dance, a catharsis akin to trance.

Schubert’s music, more specifically the “Death and the Maiden” quartet define the duality between the attraction of death and the fear of it. Schubert’s writing, a gentle, dreamlike depiction of death contrasts with the struggle and rage of the young girl resisting the temptation.
It is this permanent ambiguity that particularly interests the Zaïde Quartet.At times, the sweetness of death is seen as a relief, or as the nostalgia nostalgia for the past, but also as an underlying threat.

The spiritual elevation sought with krump corresponds perfectly to Schubert’s aesthetic and Romanticism. Proposing this adventure to Hendrickx, a leading figure in krump, was an obvious choice for Zaïde.

This project brings together classical music and popular dance, using the strength of these two disciplines to transmit emotion to people’s hearts. Movements and sounds combined, the quartet and Hendrickx become
