Franz

After Amadeus and Ludwig, the Zaïde Quartet continues its exploration of the repertoire of the great masters with Franz, a work entirely devoted to Schubert. Remaining faithful to their discographic approach—both original and daring—the four artists paint a striking portrait of the Austrian composer through one of his greatest masterpieces: Death and the Maiden. This central work is framed by the transcription of two lieder—The Erlking and a sublime aria from the opera Fierrabras. A constant duality between light and darkness, between gentleness and gloom, between life and death: the Schubertian universe is expressed here in all its existential depth, moving toward a final redemption of breathtaking beauty.
